We are delighted to be helping to shape the next exciting chapter of the Leeds Playhouse.
On Friday 22nd June Artistic Director James Brining and Executive Director Robin Hawkes announced that the theatre’s name would be changing from West Yorkshire Playhouse to Leeds Playhouse – reverting to its original name. Our project lead Nicola Walls shared her Playhouse story as part of the celebratory ‘All of Us Together’ event – concentrating on our immediate emotional response to not only the building but also the strong community it represents, and how that has gone on to shape our design.
Our Client Leeds City Council have this week approved that the project progresses to the delivery phase. The design team are now novated to contractor BAM, who are gearing up to start on site in earnest in July. Whilst the main theatres and foyers are closed during the re-development works, Leeds Playhouse are running a fantastic programme of work in their new ‘pop up’ theatre within their production studio.
We are privileged to be working on this project for Leeds City Council and hope that the redeveloped building helps support and nurture the fantastic work of the Leeds Playhouse for decades to come.
Last week, our Natalia Burakowska and John Brown were invited to attend student reviews at the Raymond Lemaire International Centre...
