St.Cecilia’s Hall wins Regeneration & Conservation Award

The Edinburgh Architectural Association Awards are a platform to showcase projects completed within the Edinburgh Chapter. This year we were thrilled that our project for the University of Edinburgh, St. Cecilia’s Hall, was announced as winner of the Regeneration and Conservation Award at this years awards evening on May 24th.

Whilst operating as a free and publicly accessible museum, St.Cecilia’s Hall is also a vital part of the University of Edinburgh as a facility for learning, cultural exchange and research.

As an incredible grouping of rooms off the Cowgate in the old town, what was apparent when we started the project was that whilst these rooms held an internationally significant collection of instruments, there was no dialogue between building and collection. It felt flat. What we set out to do was to charge the building with the collection, infusing the built fabric with the ideas of the collection to introduce a dialogue and in turn, let the collection and building sing together in harmony.
