Page \ Park became an Employee Owned Business on 1 December. This initiative has been supported by Cooperative Development Scotland - a wing of Scottish Enterprise which has as one of its objectives to maintain business ownership in Scotland.
Over the last year we have facilitiated the transition from a traditional architectural partnership into a forty strong employee owned model which combines the dynamic of a lively and creative collection of design groups, linked together by the strength of collaboration, efficient working, shared values and with the administrative strength of a common base. The journey which began five years ago has been an exciting and exacting one, firstly working with advisors Shirlaws to build an effective business model, then latterly with Baxendale to build a legal structure for this transition.
In so many fields of life the paramount role of the team, with each contribution being vital, has challenged traditional hierarchical models of management and, in our view, ownership. If society demands that each of us take responsibility for our roles, then surely ownership should respond likewise. So now, when you speak to anyone in Page \ Park, you are speaking to someone with a share in the future of the practice, a belief in its values and a commitment to them. Our models are exemplary – Arup and John Lewis who have quietly trail-blazed this concept over many years.
