We are delighted that the High School of Dundee’s ambitious plans to redevelop the former GPO building into a Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts have recently received Planning and Listed Building Consents.
By selective removal of the parts of the building detracting from the fine historic fabric and the careful remodelling of the lower floors, a dynamic and creative hub is formed to house the art, music, drama and culinary arts departments, all centred around a new 300 seat performance space.
The school's vision is to create a new facility that benefits the whole school and wider community, with the new centre including lots of provision for breakout and social space – including on the generous landings of the new central stair and in the new dining facility occupying the first floor.
We have worked closely with our design team colleagues at David Narro Associates, Harley Haddow and Charcoalblue Theatre Consultants to prepare the proposals to this stage, and the team is actively looking forward to progressing with the next stages.
