HOME, the 190th Annual Exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy opens this Saturday as part of the Scottish Government’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design and features our installation, ‘Life Beyond Buildings’.
‘Home’ as an idea is as amorphous as it is powerful. As a word, it suggests warmth, comfort, security and familiarity, and whilst we can all relate to these notions they are at the same time intensely personal.
In designing social housing, we cannot design for one single person, rather we must create a ‘one size fits all’ solution that can accommodate a range of lifestyle choices, all wrapped up within an architectural vision as part of a street, neighbourhood and city. Our exhibit looks at how our own ideas of ‘home’ have been interpreted by the people who live in the buildings we have designed, investigated through a series of conversations and captured by our collaborator Luigi di Pasquale. The work itself is a conversation; between buildings and people – take a look and get involved in the discussion.
The exhibition will run from Saturday 16th April until Wednesday 25th May at the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture in Edinburgh.
