Our Monday morning meeting featured a presentation on homelessness by Lorraine McGrath, CEO of the Simon Community in Glasgow. Lorraine’s heartfelt description of the plight of many young people in our community and the shocking statistics associated with their lives and early deaths will not be forgotten.
With our friends at NBM and David Narro Associates, we are helping the Simon Community with their vision to create a new model for a peer-supported home in Maryhill. Set within a large garden with caring neighbours, Grange House will become a stable home for formerly homeless people. The seven self-contained flatlets with communal south-facing lounge and kitchen are planned to provide a comfortable and supportive environment and an escape from the trap of temporary accommodation.
