'The Essential Monument'

Karen Nugent contributed to an Ian Appleton inspired conference in Edinburgh on the role of public art, ‘The Essential Monument’. Joining a number of speakers Karen spoke on the value of public art in representing a popular mandate as well as an artistic position. In considering and valuing the legacy of history it is important to understand the public will that put it there. Drawing on Karen’s work at Albert Square in Dundee and the practice’s work at Glasgow Cathedral Precinct, the Gorbals and St Andrew’s Cathedral, the importance of valuing consensus was explored.
