The project is one of four which form a development masterplanned by Richard Murphy Architects for Molendinar Housing Association in Glasgow. The principle of the masterplan is a central public square bounded by four housing projects, each with its entrance through a smaller private courtyard. Our project is composed of two blocks which enclose south facing living rooms and balconies. Each of the triangular rounded corner blocks has a metallic skin to the outer streets and central square with stepped timber balconies to the inner garden.
As a whole, the development explores whether the dichotomy of clearly defining the public urban street together with the open expression of the private domestic garden realm is possible.
