Leeds Town Hall –
We are delighted to have recently started works on the Grade 1 listed Leeds Town Hall. The design for this 1858 Victorian masterpiece has been created by Page \ Park in collaboration with NPS and the wider design team.
For the first time in its history, Leeds Town Hall will feature democratic step-free access, with improved visibility from Victoria Square into a new secondary main entrance. This entrance will become a celebratory experience more akin to that of entering the building by the main ceremonial steps and doors. This essential enhancement is complemented by new and widened openings, fostering a stronger connection between the Town Hall and the city. These thoughtfully designed entryways offer an accessible and seamless journey from the exterior to the interior, inviting the city into this historic venue.
The new entrance hall will reference the opulent materials and colours of the main lobby, with new glazed tiles and a brightly coloured lift shaft creating a vibrant welcome. The new lift provides access to a new reception and ticketing area, and beyond to the Victoria Hall and the rest of the building.
Previously under-used areas of the east side of the building, facing Calverly street, will be opened up to create new contemporary bars and toilets to service the Victoria Hall. These spaces have been meticulously transformed to ensure a first-class visitor experience. In the bars, historic details that were previously hidden have been carefully restored and paired with thoughtfully considered additions. These enhancements create elegant and welcoming spaces that serve patrons during intervals, all within a grand and historically rich setting. This blend of old and new enriches the venue’s experience while preserving the distinct charm of the Town Hall, ensuring visitors enjoy a seamless and unforgettable experience.
