Our project at North Gate in the Gorbals of Glasgow has today received a coveted RIBA national award.

The project is testament to the long-term commitment by New Gorbals Housing Association to invest in collaborative, design-led urban regeneration, creating a lasting urban environment that bucks the trend of cyclical demolition.

The client brief challenged us to create high quality socially rented flats that would become life-enhancing homes for the tenants, all within tight budgets imposed by the social housing grant funding regime. More than this, the building had to act as the gateway to the New Gorbals, and a landmark at the end of Glasgow’s oldest thoroughfare. We like to think it has become the ‘Crown of Crown Street’ as the original masterplan intended.

We are elated to have the project recognised by the RIBA alongside exceptional works across the UK, showing that good design transcends budget.
