Scottish Design Awards 2021
It was a successful and enjoyable evening for the practice at last night’s Scottish Design Awards.
We had two projects nominated this year: 166 Gorbals Street, Glasgow, in the Regeneration category; and St Matthew’s Parish Church, Bishopbriggs, for Building Re-Use. We were delighted to see 166 Gorbals Street win an award in its category, and St Matthew’s receive a commendation among some stiff competition. Congratulations to both respective design teams and clients for this well deserved recognition!
Our project at 166 Gorbal Street restored James Salmon Jr’s former Linen Bank to residential use for Southside Housing Association, safeguarding the future of one of the few remaining tenements in the old Gorbals.
At St Matthew’s Parish Church, we created a new interior in the existing sanctuary, extending the side aisle, and providing new accessible facilities. The intention of this project was to restore the spirit of the original building, while embracing artistic contemporary interventions that are worthy of their setting.
Congratulations to all of the evenings winners, and thanks to the Scottish Design Awards and sponsors for hosting an excellent ceremony, once again under challenging circumstances.
