Scottish Design Awards 2025

We are thrilled to win the Gold Award in the Conservation category at the 2025 Scottish Design Awards for our project Rosslyn Castle. To celebrate we’re sharing some of the amazing photographs captured by clickclickjim. These images beautifully showcase the character and craftsmanship of the project!
The recent project focused on the east range, the only inhabited part of the castle. This section dates from the 16th century and has spent most of its history partly in ruins after being ransacked by Oliver Cromwell’s army in 1650.
A new permanent roof will protect the ruinous areas of the East Range, including 3 layers of medieval vaults below, for the first time in over 350 years, also bringing the spaces back into use and safeguarding the historic fabric for future generations. The project reinstates a contemporary reimagining of the ‘Great Hall’, only identifiable by visible building archaeology. The new roof sought to prevent further deterioration of the site, put in place a long-term strategy for its conservation, and bring the castle up to contemporary standards, without compromising the heritage value of the site. As well as providing an opportunity to future proof the castle, allowing a more holistic and sustainable project to be undertaken.
