The scaffolding has dropped on the second of our ceramic structures for Glencairn House library and museum in Dumbarton. The smaller children’s library pavilion sits in a garden to the rear of the main library centred around a “storytelling tree”. The two structures form a composition, along with Dumbarton Rock, reminiscent of the famous 18th century Dumbarton Glassworks chimneys. The buildings tell the story of Dumbarton’s past, a history of engineering and innovation, power and influence, as well as looking to an inspiring future with this low carbon CLT structure and contemporary handmade ceramic cladding.
