Nicola and Jamie from our office recently had the pleasure of taking part in this year’s Maths Week Scotland. Along with Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) and Scottish Opera, Page\Park hosted around 50 pupils from Eastbank Academy and Eastbank Primary School at our Theatre Royal project. The theme was ‘The Beauty of Maths’ and our foyer extension provided a great backdrop to explain some of the hidden maths behind architecture and theatre design. As part of the session we produced an activity pack which was distributed to the pupils beforehand which asked them to design their own interpretation of the main central staircase within the foyer. On the day itself pupils took part in an interactive measuring activity in the foyer which helped to explain some of the hidden geometry and mathematics behind the space. The event was great to be part of and presented a fantastic opportunity to widen access to architecture, design and theatre for young people who have little or no experience in these areas.
